Following his release with Dream Diary Records earlier this year, which saw support from the likes of Damian Lazarus, Extrawelt, Lawrence Hart and more, ‘Otus’ aka Sebastian Cole brings us another piece of forward-thinking clubware with his “Select/Rhythm” EP.
Its conception came during lockdown where Seb craved those hard-hitting frequencies only felt in a club and maintained his focus on creating a release ready for the underground to reopen.
Over the past year, he took time to further hone his modular-based productions with a more fluid, live approach to his composition, presenting us with a raw, analogue, percussive-driven EP spanning techno, 2-step, afrobeat and leftfield.
Both tracks pay homage to the London clubbing scene taking inspiration from the diverse sound the city emits. The a-side ‘Select’, is a fast-moving rugged DJ tool ready to pick up the energy in any space. It bridges the gap between 2-step and techno, flowing between his signature raw, analogue-based percussion, choppy sound design cuts and vast emotive soundscapes maintaining plenty of pace throughout.
‘Rhythm’, a more atmospheric moment, features euphoric pads and soft, modular tones flowing around jungle-inspired rhythms. It starts with bongo-style percussion building to an unexpected drop where a hypnotic modular lead spirals around the beat with euphoric drones softly accenting the melody. This track will hold the energy of any DJ set while giving the dancefloor a moment to breathe and take in the moment.
