about

DDSC 001 // Otus - Anla

Kicking off Dream Diary’s first singles club entry is Otus (Aka Sebastian Cole) making his debut release for Dream Diary Records, with his single Anla. Seb has spent the last 3 years developing his skills as a sound designer and producer, boasting textural depth in his music. During his last year at Uni he joined Octagon London Studios as an intern and has since gone on to work as the Label Coordinator for Dream Diary Records. He has refined his sonic pallet to present a mixture of intricate grooves and vast soundscapes with a mature ear for production.

Alongside his dedication to producing unique dance music, Otus has developed himself as a very adept DJ having played in clubs across the U.K. Since his move to London in 2019 he was scouted by Submit UK to be a part of their monthly residency in Shoreditch, where he’s been able to further hone his craft whilst test driving new productions. Anla takes you on a journey into left-field techno, drum n bass and deep ambient sound scapes. The opening idea was born from an exploration into DD’s modular synth racks and distortion pedals. From here, the intricate beat, supported by the distorted percussive bass line flows into the ambient mid section which lifts the atmosphere into a whole different space, reminding us of break downs from artists such as Floating Points and Jon Hopkins.

As smoothly as we entered this sudden sense of suspension we are dropped back into the track with a real unity from all the elements that had been presented up until this point. Fizzing noises, pulsating pads, glitched up slices of distortion and hypnotic break beats close out the
track with a sense of flare and precision. Whilst still only 24, Otus is a very exciting prospect who deserves much attention.
